School Tours

Youth Singers of Calgary would love to come to your school! Twice a year we take our award-winning highly- entertaining show on the road to local Calgary and area schools. Would your school like to have a Youth Singers performance? Here is what you need to know.

Q: What is a Youth Singer show all about?

A: Youth Singers school tour shows are 30 to 40 minutes in length of choreographed choral music. Much of it is popular contemporary songs that your students will know and love. It is a real boost for performers and audience alike to see local singers on stage. Youth Singers provides all of the equipment that we need to put on a great show in your school, including risers and sound equipment.

Q: When are the Youth Singers’ School Tours?

A: Youth Singers school tours happen twice per year: mid December and end of May. Shows take place at approximately 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM and 2:30 PM. Times may vary depending on the school’s daily schedule, as well as transportation times.

Q: What does the school need to provide?

A: Youth Singers requires a stage area of about 30 feet wide by 18 feet deep. One end of your school gym usually works well. We need the area to be clear, and we need access to it earlier in the day so that we can set-up. Our singers arrive by bus about a half hour before the performance time. Our logistics crew arrives earlier in the day to set up risers and our sound system. We may need to leave our equipment at your school for a few hours after our show as we leapfrog around town – but someone will be back to pick everything before the end of your school day.

We also ask that teachers review good audience behavior with their classes prior to our arrival. Our singers are working very hard onstage and they appreciate a polite and attentive audience.

We need a place to store our coats and outdoor shoes as well as a place to eat lunch if our performance at your school is at that time of day.

We appreciate knowing in advance how many students attend the school and which grades will be attending the performance. Also, can parents (of students at your school) be invited to watch the performance or is space a premium?

Q: Are there any costs involved?

A: If your school has a budget for special presentations, an honorarium of $100 to $300 is appropriate and goes a long way toward supporting a great program. It costs Youth Singers over $1000 per school tour day for the cost of equipment, bus rental and sound technician (average of $250 per school for 4 schools).

Q: In which grade are the performers?

A: The divisions that we send on school tour are:

KIDZXPRESS – performers in grades 3 to 6 for audiences K to 6

JUNIOR HI – performers in grades 6 to 9 for audiences K to 6

SENIOR HI (Christmas only) – performers in grades 9 to 12 for audiences K to 9

SHINE (Spring only) – semi-professional small ensemble for audiences K to 12

ONCUE – If your music program would benefit from a small performing ensemble (4-6) of teaching artists. K to 12
