FAQ: ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATIONWhat Do I Get For My Money? In addition to the excellent program, instruction and unparalleled opportunities enjoyed by all participants, Youth Singers provides each singer with a number of wardrobe pieces and a music binder containing the repertoire for the season. These remain the property of Youth Singers but are issued without charge, provided everything is returned clean, complete and in good order at the end of the season (see Caution Fee). A portion of your tuition fee is directed toward our “Wardrobe Replacement Fund” - a fund that provides the means necessary to replace and refurbish our wardrobe on an ongoing basis. The fees also cover the facility rental, general equipment, recording sessions, rehearsal/demo CD’s, Workshop weekends and Camp Fees (where applicable). Are There Any Other Costs? You will be required to purchase some basic wardrobe pieces (i.e. black pants, black dress shirt, nylons/socks) dance shoes and make-up which will remain your property. Our Wardrobe Department works very hard to find the best deals in town for all additional costume pieces. The exchange board in our Wardrobe Department advertises second hand items that other singers have outgrown. Is Financial Assistance Available?Through the generosity of Petro-Canada and Great West Life, bursaries are available to qualifying singers who may not be able to afford the full cost of the program. All cases are handled individually and kept confidential. Should you require information or wish to apply, please contact the Youth Singers office at 234-9549. Do I have to audition?Yes, Audition Interviews take place for new singers entering the program and for singers moving from one division to the next. They are scheduled through the Youth Singers office and are attended by the division Director and a member of the Administrative Team. Audition Interviews are intended to assess the singer’s musical aptitude and generally require no preparation. The director will look for an ability to sing a simple song unaccompanied and in tune, matching pitch, rhythm, general vocal quality and possibly some simple sight reading. Equally important to ability is the singers desire to be a performer. Do I have to participate in fundraising?Yes, everyone in the Youth Singers program must participate in fundraising if it applies to the specific program you are registered in. You may opt out by making a donation and receiving a tax receipt, otherwise we require a post-dated payment for the S.U.T.P. books and you must book at least half of your Bingo dates (if applicable). If these items do not accompany the registration form it is incomplete and the singer will not be assured a place in the program. Do I have to volunteer?Every family in the KIDZXPRESS, JUNIOR HI and SENIOR HI Divisions must participate in volunteering or opt out by making a donation and receiving a tax receipt. We require a minimum of 60 hours (approx. 6 hours per month) per singer in the program. Failure to complete your volunteer commitment will result in a family having to pay to “opt out” or future registration for the singer being rejected. What Is the Caution Fee?A Caution Fee payable by cheque post-dated to the end of June OR secured with a VISA or MasterCard number - must accompany your registration. The Caution Fee is held until all wardrobe pieces and music belonging to Youth Singers is returned in good condition and/or there are no outstanding accounts at the end of the season. What are Fundraising Credits?Fundraising Credits can be applied against program costs or a Tour, thereby reducing the financial burden. Once you have completed your commitment a portion of all additional fundraising will earn credits that will be issued to you. The credits are given out in the form of a voucher for the appropriate amount, and you will be solely responsible for them. Do not lose them as they will not be tracked and therefore are not replaceable. Further information is available during the orientation meeting at the beginning of the season or through the Youth Singers office. |
