Megan Emmett

CEO

(She/her) Megan has had a lifelong love of music, singing, and teaching. She studied at McGill University, doing graduate work in Musicology and a BA in Music, and at the University of Calgary, completing a BEd. Megan worked for the Calgary Board of Education as a classroom teacher and music specialist over the past 10 years, at the innovative W.H. Cushing Workplace school downtown, and at Hugh A Bennett School in the northeast, where she’s also been a Learning Leader on the administrative team and where she produced the school’s opening ceremony in 2017.

Megan has now embarked on a career in Leadership with the Youth Singers of Calgary. Megan first joined the Youth Singers of Calgary in 1988 as a singer, just in time to sing at the 1988 Winter Olympics. After university in Montreal, travel abroad, and a year working in arts administration in Toronto, Megan returned to Calgary in 2001 to work for Youth Singers in production and touring. Her service continued as a board member when she returned to university to pursue a career in education, and she joined their artistic staff as an assistant choral director in 2013. A strong believer in the value performing arts bring to young people, Megan has also served as a board member for the Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music and Evergreen Theatre. Megan is thrilled to bring her background in administration and education to steward the Youth Singers into the 2020s.
