Tour FAQs

What is included in my touring fees?

All accommodations, airfare, ground transportation, meals, activities and admission to sight-seeing and events, basic travel medical insurance, performance costs, and all taxes and gratuities. Spending money, a passport, and a tour jacket are not included.

*Please note, all singers, staff, and TAs must have a black and silver YSC tour jacket. If you do not have one from a tour in 2015 or later, you are welcome to borrow one from another member, or you can purchase one. You will be given the option to add it to your order when you register for tour, or you can purchase at a later time.

All declined payments will be subject to a $25 NSF fee.

Are there opportunities for others to tour with Youth Singers?

Yes! We welcome travelers on all of our tours! Travelers are individuals who are on tour with us but are non-performing. Parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, and friends are welcome to join us. Travelers accompanying the tour will participate in the same scheduled activities as the singers, and everything listed above is included. Travelers can choose from single or double occupancy, and receive adult attraction passes and meals whereas singers typically stay in quad accommodations and get student rates. Travelers have free time in the itinerary while singers are in rehearsal and can opt out of any other activities they wish at any time.

Are there spots for chaperones?

We accept a limited number of Tour Assistants, who travel at a subsidized rate and are responsible for many duties during the tour. Apply to be a TA here! Once you have been accepted, you will have the opportunity to register and pay for tour at the TA price.

Can my family or singer be a part of the tour and make our own travel accommodations?

Singers must be a part of the tour group and cannot make separate arrangements. Families are welcome to travel independently; however, the activities that you may participate in will be limited. You are welcome to come and see any public performances, but may not be included in any event that is included in the tour costs and itinerary. It will be your responsibility to make arrangements for all travel, accommodations, meals, transportation, activity admission fees, etc.

Does the singer have to participate in all tour activities if we travel as a family along with the group?

The expectation is that singers going on tour will participate in all activities with their group. If a family decides to travel along with the YSC tour they are included in all plans and any deviations from the tour itinerary must be arranged with the singer’s chaperone.

Are there extra rehearsals for tour?

Yes! Because the tours involve a subset of the participating divisions, there are additional rehearsals to prepare with only the touring singers. These rehearsals are mandatory for all touring singers.

Can I pay the entire cost of the tour now?

Yes! We are grateful to those that can do this as it helps us secure better prices and exchange rates when they are available. We begin making deposits very early and depend on this income to meet our payment deadlines.

How do tour payment plans work?

When you register for tour, you may either pay in full or sign up for a payment plan (via monthly payments on a credit card). If you choose a payment plan, a deposit is due upon registration, and the balance will be split into equal payments. To apply bingo credits to your tour fees, bring your credits in to the YSC office at least 5 business days before your next scheduled payment, and they will be applied to your account.

Does Youth Singers run tour fundraisers?

You can earn credits toward the cost of your tours by working additional bingos beyond your contract bingos. Other fundraising opportunities, including through our Purdy’s Chocolate fundraiser, will be communicated as they arise.

What if I cancel or withdraw?

Tour fees include trip cancellation and interruption insurance for covered reasons such as illness or injury, certain job loss circumstances, natural disasters, or other unforeseeable events.

If you would like the flexibility to cancel your trip for a reason that is not covered, you may purchase your own Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) insurance. Many CFAR insurance policies must be purchased within 48-72 hours of your initial trip payment, so you should make those arrangements at the same time as you register for tour.

Can I extend my trip?

Yes! There will be an opportunity much closer to your tour date to extend the end of your trip. You will be charged the difference in the flight cost and an administrative fee and will be responsible for your own meals, accommodations, and other arrangements once the tour leaves. We typically do not allow singers to leave Calgary early and join up with the tour, as there are important rehearsal dates in the week leading up to the tour, and singers must be in attendance.

Touring Brings Youth Singers to the World, and the World to your Singer.

Youth Singers has performed on 5 continents, bringing the spirit of Youth Singers, Calgary, and Canada around the world and singing our way into the hearts of audiences worldwide.

Through Youth Singers’ touring program, singers experience the world, make memories with friends, and perform in many venues and cultural settings. Every Youth Singers tour incorporates outstanding opportunities for performances, education, and personal growth. Through touring, singers experience local culture, try new foods, work with arts professionals, perform and compete on the world stage, and come home with stronger friendships and stories to tell.

Tours include activities such as competitions, clinics with arts professionals, professionally staged shows, festival performances, and cultural exchanges with schools and other organizations. All tours include plenty of sight-seeing, fun, and exploration of the local culture.
