YSC Performs at Music Conference Alberta

October 20-23, Youth Singers was represented at the Music Conference Alberta in Edmonton by CEO Megan Emmett, and Principal Conductor Kathryn Parrotta, as delegates. We were thrilled to be invited to perform at the opening Showcase for an audience of leaders in the choral and band arts, as well as music educators from all over the province.

An ensemble from our core performing divisions, along with SHINE and ONCUE performed. The performance featured a blended version of Kathryn Parrotta’s original composition, “When the Music Went Silent” which was originally written in 2021 during the pandemic and produced as a filmed virtual choir performance. The performance began with the virtual choir on-screen. Midway through, the singers began singing live on stage along with the filmed choir. Most of the singers at the live performance had participated in filming and recording this song, so it was a special full-circle moment to sing this special number with their onscreen selves; this time presenting the song live together with each other and the audience. It was a very powerful moment. The reception from our colleagues in the audience was tremendous.
